Time’s Flying By!

Hello world! We are the Joshua Class of 2019-20 reporting in! Today is officially our two-month anniversary at Joshua and boy are we exited to be here! Every day is such a blast being able to grow with all the guys and gals!

Some exciting events that took place this week were the new SWEEP Assignments and Pause Night!  For those of you who do not know, SWEEP is where Joshua student’s volunteer a couple hours a week at one of the Hume Lake Departments. This evening the Hibbs Family had pizza! Can I get an amen! Now the Hibbs family has a tradition where Kevin Hibbs, who is also our New Testament Survey teacher and a part of the Hume Staff in Pondy Kitchen, reads a story by candlelight to his Pause Family.  When Kevin reads he uses different voice for each character! We love this quality time that we get to spend together with the Hibbs and unwind week and all its business.

On the other side of the spectrum we were also assigned our essay prompts for Hermeneutics and Old Testament Survey! Two essays ranging from five to ten pages due in December! We sure have our work cut out for us in the weeks ahead!

The past few days we have had the pleasure of listening to Matt and Grace Berg talk on Colossians 3:1-17.  Yesterday, Grace talked about how “we need to fight sin on the balls of our feet!” Grace’s message was very convicting and I’m sure my brothers and sisters here can testify how all too frequently it is so easy to be passive when it comes to sin and veer away from confrontation! The solution, get to know God, spend time with him, remember and declare what he has done in your life and be willing to fall at his feet and call out for help because we cannot do it on own strength!

Half of the students have the weekend off so some of the girls are heading down the hill! Safe travels ladies! To the readers, come back and read up on the latest Joshua news, next Wednesday!

Within the last week we returned from Hartland (covered in dirt), took our Philippians Chapter 1 test (psst…we all passed), and hit two months here at Joshua (which came too fast). This week we also checked another book off of our booklist, started new S.W.E.E.P.S. and hung out without pause families. We are finishing Mere Christianity by C.S. Lewis (an author whom I greatly enjoy) and are moving into The Ragamuffin Gospel by Brennan Mannning, which will carry us on until early December. For S.W.E.E.P.S. I am now in the Ponderosa kitchen, where we got to cook and eat some bacon. I will miss being in grounds but look forward to my time in the kitchen. Finally, earlier this evening we had pause family night. I am blessed and grateful to call the Logans and the Sciannas our family. Tonight, we all came together for macaroni bar, spice muffins, some great games, and wrapped it up with some candy raids before heading back to the building.

Now watch out! Because before you know it, we will be off to Christmas break. We leave for Mexico in one week, followed by Thanksgiving break. Then only a handful of weeks before Christmas. It has been amazing to see God working in all of us in such a short amount of time and I look forward to what is still to come. Until next time folks!
