This has been a week that feels like forever. We have the ever looming day of departure for the Dominican Republic. The excitement and anxiety are every present in our group. We are beyond excited to go, but also very aware of the fact that we have no idea what to expect or to not know what God has in store for us. Fellow classmate Simone leans more to the excited side because in her words, “Missions have been placed on my heart and it will be a good experience what cross-cultural missions look like and also because of the fact that I have never been to the Dominican is also exciting.” To help with getting a better understanding and to prepare our hearts and minds for what to expect in the DR, the staff brought in the director of Students International Dave. Dave is a man who is 6’5 of all joy, risk, God, and service. He is actually 6’5 and towers over all of us except me (Madi, being that I am 6’3 lol). He is constantly smiling and laughing and you can just see the joy of Christ flowing through him in the stories he told and his view he has on life. And his passion he has for the Lord and the work that God has in store for him through SI (students international). It will be exciting to hear what else he has in store for us this week and what the DR has as well.
It will be nice to have the weekend off of work before we start working for Jesus for two weeks. Although, working with campers last weekend was fun. It was the first weekend of Winter Camp 2017. The theme ironically, relates to the Sh’ma that we’ve been reciting all year. Actually, the theme is called “That’s It!”, but, it is about how we need to silence ourselves, and then hear and obey what God has to tell us. The word Sh’ma means to hear and to obey, that’s it! I, Andrew Warnock, finally got to work in concessions over the weekend for the first time this Joshua year after working in the Snack Shop for the past two summers. This time it was a change in environment being in the OK Chalet, but was really fun and delicious eating the leftover
Starting around 9:41 this morning snow started to fill our backyard. This beautiful time-lapse was caught by Ethan Hoj.
