Preview #2

What a crazy weekend we just had. Quite a few of us had work, and some of us got the chance to be Green Coats. Green Coats means that we got to work in Activities. Every weekend of winter camp, there is a Boxsled Blitz run, where campers get to make their own boxsleds out of duct tape and cardboard and send it down the tube run with riders to see whose can reach the bottom. Unfortunately instead of snow this weekend, all we got was rain which made the tube run icy and slick. This caused all of the boxsleds to race down the hill at extreme and even sometimes dangerous speeds. So dangerous in fact, that a lot of the sleds broke right after the one and only jump, causing all the riders to tumble out. Thankfully there was only one minor injury. It was also really cool to see the sleds that made it all the way down the tube run without breaking, Very impressive.

On Monday, we woke up with the anticipation of a test in our Major Prophets class, and the arrival of preview students. Once the previews got here and our test was over, we enjoyed showing them around the building and telling them all the great things about the program. When dinner came around, we all realized that we forgot to tell the previews that there would be an awkward five minutes of silence before dinner started, followed by a prayer, and phrases in other languages chanted while our pinkies were held in the air. They must have thought the program was pretty weird at that point. Hopefully we didn’t scare them all off.

Later that evening, we were introduced to our speaker Josh Hawley, who spoke about understanding who we are in Christ so we can live freely for His glory. He connected it to Philippians 1:1-2 and we all laughed because we almost have that whole book memorized. After speaker, it started to rain, and not just rain but pour. It hasn’t stopped raining since then. Because of this, we’ve been able to listen to the beautiful sound of raindrops hitting the roof all day long. So that was great. Another great thing that happened, was that we got our ‘five minutes early’ consequence lifted! Yay. Hopefully we learned our lesson.

Before & After of Drew’s transformation

Also, last week we lost another of our students, my roommate Nick, and now Brian has moved in with me (Jono) . Thankfully, Brian’s Swedish flag isn’t bigger than my American flag so I allowed him to keep it. I took him on a tour of my room. I showed him the shrine to Harambe, my coffee station, my doorway beads, and extensive stockpile of food. This weekend I worked as a Green Coat in Activities, where I worked in the Sawmill (snowboard run) and as a runner for the box sled blitz. As a runner, I got the privilege of taking the helmets off the kids at the bottom of the sled run, and running them (hence the name runner) to the top of the tube run. I ran up and down the tube run about 20 times and almost fell on the ice covered snow about 20 times, and almost trucked groups of campers because they wouldn’t move out of my way but thanks to my American Bald Eagle like speed and nimbleness I was able to avoid them and not send any more junior highers to the infirmary. Last week the kids weren’t so lucky… sorry Tim, get well soon. But, all in all, I can’t complain at this point in time. There are no restrictions on the class or myself anymore, and it feels like I either want to cannonball off the roof into the snow or sleep for a day. Brian and I are excited about our soon to be shopping excursion on Amazon to remodel our bathroom (get a different shower curtain) and possibly get five pounds of Lucky Charms marshmallows and possibly other things that we actually need.
