A New Year!

Hey, everyone,

Just checking in to give all you fine folks an update on life here at Joshua. We got back from Christmas break last week and things have been super hectic. It was great coming back to the building and seeing everyone again. As much as we appreciated the time at home, it’s great to be back. Upon our return to the building Thursday evening, we ate dinner and then received our work assignments for the weekend before we were dismissed.

The work weekend was absolute madness. Both Ben and I along with one of our classmates were working in the dish room. I love the dish room, so naturally I was excited… then I found out our dishwasher was broken. It was a crazy weekend of running around, trying to fix things and just generally loosing little bits of sanity here and there. To top that off, we had to dance pizzas out to the family campers that were here for New Years’ Eve and work until almost 1:00 A.M. on New Years’ Day. But, we made it through and had incredible staff to work alongside. Showing the love of Christ to campers is always better than sleep (though, I have a dream that both can be simultaneously plausible in the future).

After recovering from the long night of working by sleeping in on Monday morning we were refreshed (well, most of us). Monday afternoon at three our previews started arriving. We probably scared them all at first because we all crowded around the Great Room with big smiles as they trickled in. Previews checked in and went to their host’s rooms to settle in. With all the extra guests in the building we had to rearrange the dining room and turn the great room into a classroom. It has been so much fun showing all the preview students around the building and explaining Joshua to them. Having the preview students here has made me realize that at some point Joshua will come to an end. While the end is not near it still scares me to think of where we will all go next.

We have an awesome speaker this week; Fred Blackburn. Last night he talked to us about existentialism. He does a great job of blowing everyone’s minds and challenging our beliefs. We got to grill Fred today which revealed tons of cool facts about him. Some of my favorite things about Fred include his connection to nature and his love of Disney princesses. I am looking forward to listening to three more talks from him this week and I wish that he could stay for a few more weeks.

It’s so great being back home at Hume, we are all looking forward to more snowfall and fun with our Joshua brothers and sisters.
