Investing in People

Since being in the Dominican Republic and acclimating to the time change it has been an AMAZING time! My team is Appropriate Technology. We are building affordable water filters made with natural resources and installing it into people’s homes while loving on them and sharing the gospel. Going into it I thought my site was going to be more focused on blood sweat and tears of making the filters and less of the in home relationships, yet it is the complete opposite! Our main objective is to invest into the people in the community and share about Christ rather than mass produce water filters for two weeks. I have been completely in my element in talking and fostering relationships, while also outside my comfort zone by being in a completely different country, with a different language and drastic economic differences. I am loving the community and laughs and good times. The other day we met Angela who we played Dominos with (the country’s national game). It is awesome how just a small little game, can create so many opportunities to invest into others. We met her sister Lucilla as well. The next day we traveled further into the country where we met Roel and his mother and played dominos and ate La Bandera (Rice, beans, chicken, and salad) I got to talk to Roel about his culture and family and most importantly about his faith. Also, hi mom! I love you and have been thinking about you! I’ll call you when I’m on my way home!

Until next time,
