Pause night this last Thursday with the Hibbs family was definitely one I will remember. We met down at the lake for Audrey’s baptism in November. It was a beautiful day, but extremely cold. Last weekend, a majority of the students were off work, so most of us made plans to get a ride down the mountain into Fresno, Santa Cruz, San Jose, or wherever else our hearts desired. November 2, 2018 A fundamental part of the Joshua Wilderness Institute is character building. This means, we as Joshua brothers and sisters are held to a certain standard. As a part of the consequences for the rules not being followed, additional rules are added until we meet the standard. For talking over our speakers, we now have an assigned seating chart. October 31, 2018 This past week, the we had Jim Wright from Westmont College come speak to us. We learned about the relationship between peace and justice, about powerful questions, about how to negotiate well, and wrapped the week up discussing the conflict between Israel and Palestine. October 26, 2018 This week in Joshua we had a married couple who both teach at Westmont College as our speakers. They were SO smart and they gave us a lot of life skills in dealing with conflict in a way that you are not trying to beat the other person, but that you are trying to understand and come to an agreement with them.
