As we are sitting here writing this on the roof of Ramat Rachel Kibbutz a siren sounded at exactly 8 pm throughout all of Israel and everything stoped. The cars, the people, the noise. Today is our seventh day in the Promised Land and we traveled all day through the Jezreel Valley to the coast of the Mediterranean and now headed to Jerusalem! We started our day hiking up the Tel of Megiddo where we learned about Solomon’s reign and the reign of King Ahab. The third day of our adventures in Galilee started off in a small town called Qatzrin. We donned first century clothing and got to experience a small part of what it would have been like to live two thousand years ago. We got a tour of the wheat field and the olive press, and then ground wheat flour and baked our own pita bread on a metal shield over a fire and tried it out

Today is Shabbat (Sabbath) in Israel which falls on a Saturday. This means most Jewish people working in this kibbutz we have the privilege of laying our heads, were not present this day, but at home with family resting. Our meals were a bit different as well.
